Ashleigh, Human Resources Generalist

First name: Ashleigh

Time at EDAG / year hired: November 2021

Title: Human Resources Generalist

Why did you start down a Human Resources career path?

Working and interacting with people every day is something I have always enjoyed doing. I would consider myself a people person, someone who isn’t afraid to start a conversation or assist an individual with a question. I chose an HR career path because I wanted to be able to have the chance to influence aspects of an organization and contribute to the development of its employees in a professional and personal way. Being in the HR field is rewarding at times; offering people their dream job, increasing someone’s compensation, and giving employees a chance to be their most authentic self. HR is one of the few departments that makes it possible to engage routinely with corporate leaders. As an HR professional, you play a key role in company – wide initiatives that include hiring/onboarding new talent, developing/updating corporate policies, and reviewing employee engagement initiatives.

What do you like most about working at EDAG?

Looking back, it was a breath of fresh air walking into EDAG on my first day of work. All of the employees at EDAG are well-rounded, innovative individuals. The Administration team has welcomed me with open arms and has made me feel like they are a part of my family. They have been fun to work with and have helped me grow and achieve enormously as a HR professional. While at EDAG and working alongside some experienced individuals, I have learned to love my job even more than when I first started. I am thankful that I have gained a great deal of knowledge and many mentors during my time here at EDAG. Every day at EDAG is a learning experience and I am so excited to be a part of such a diverse, world – class organization and to see EDAG grow in the United States.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

A day in the HR world is never the same as the day before. Anyone who works in HR knows that they are also known as the unofficial lawyer, the event planner, teacher, or detective of their organization. The daily job of an HR generalist in any organization is quite technical. Hence, the person for this job must possess skills including strong communication, patience, professionalism, etc. An HR Generalist handles all things people related. Depending on the industry, a typical day for a Human Resources Generalist will involve many different tasks, meetings and responsibilities. HR Generalists are typically involved with staffing, training, benefits, policies and legal compliance.  Ideally, an HR Generalist’s day is structured with routine tasks and well-thought-out initiatives. The varies activities reflect the wide-range of the role and require interpersonal skills, analytical abilities, and a strategic mindset. In addition, being available to meet with employees and management, clarifying doubts, and offering necessary support. The organization relies on you and your team to navigate the complexities of corporate life. It is important to always prioritize them. My goal is to support our Director of Human Resources, Jennifer Girard, by ensuring that all Human Resources procedures will run smoothly and effectively each day.

What are some of your hobbies / what do you do outside of work?

A balanced work life is extremely important to have within an organization. When it comes to having a pronounced work life balance, EDAG has been transparent with making this happen. Outside of work I enjoy going out & trying new restaurants, traveling to new places, going to concerts and sporting events, and cooking/baking. I also enjoy planning events for family, friends, and work purposes. During the summer, I enjoy going up north with my husband & hanging out on my parent’s boat with family and friends.
